Cadweb gets Rave Reviews
|
October 2006
As part of the post project review, team members are often asked for their comments on various aspects of a project: What worked and what did not: What could be done better next time: What should be repeated and what should be discontinued. The review has just come in from a major project in Manchester City Centre and Cadweb received some very positive comments.
The project, a £120m inner city shopping centre refurbishment finished on time and on budget at the beginning of September this year. Since April 2002, when Cadweb was first activated on this project a total of 248,939 files have been uploaded and sent undercover of 45,049 Issue Sheets. Add to this the 9,419 messages and 1,654 RFIs; all complete with a secure, detailed and reliable project archive, on the one system and in one place.
On average each item was copied to 3.6 other people, generating a staggering figure of 913,895 files issued to and by the project team over the last 53 months. Many benefited further and utilized Cadweb's Intranet system for their own internal project information distribution, storage and management. Out of the total number of items sent, 26% were issued internally, private to just them and their colleagues.
Feedback such as the following was received back from users of the system:
- “On the whole the system is pretty faultless. It does what it’s supposed to and is easy to use. I was a fairly heavy user, drawing issues to and from and RFI's. Upload and download speeds are TERRIFIC.
Great system otherwise !!!!!!!! .”
Architects: Chapman Taylor Partners
- “The system made it very easy to issue drawings, track issues of drawings by BLL [Bovis Lend Lease] to sub-contractors, track revisions of drawings.
As an older engineer who was brought up on drawing boards and slide rules I found it very easy to use. The search facility was very useful to track revised drawings and when sub-contractors received drawings. Many times sub-contractors claimed they had not received drawings it took about 30 seconds to confirm they had received them.
When an EDMS system was proposed I was concerned that I would find it difficult to use but this was incorrect as I found it very easy to use. It was very easy to resolve problems between our site staff and the office by transfer of sketches etc.
Since all information sent to CMM [Connell Mott MacDonald] came through me it made it very easy for me to control issue of information within the CMM team. My overall impression of Cadweb was it is an excellent system.”
Structural Engineer: Connell Mott MacDonald
- “Its good all around I find it very useful in every aspect on this project
-easy to communicate with people you can not meet.
-good to flag important issues to all the concerned parties
-I hope more companies use it on the project they get involve with
-(finally on a big size projects without Cadweb ……. it would not be possible to achieve the same speed of processing information).
WELL DONE AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ”
Subcontractor: Balfour Kilpatrick
- I have used quite a few of web based collaborative tools like: Hummingbird, BIW, A-site, 4Projects & Buzzsaw. The one thing which is truly outstanding is speed of connection & file transfer. Never been "timed out"! I like the graphical interface, friendly & logical layout. E-mail notifications with hyperlinks - great. Easy to use. Nice to work with.
One of the best systems I've seen.
Sub-contractor: Clark & Fenn Skanska Ltd
Other potentially libellous comments comparing Cadweb with competitor systems cannot be published!
”We are very gratified that our contribution to the successful completion of this project has been recognised. Our job, rather like that of the post or the fax machine of old, is not to be noticed, but to get on with the task of exchanging all the project information to the right people at the right time, quietly and efficiently.” Said Chris De Carlo Projects and Operations Director at Cadweb. He continued;
“This sets a benchmark against which all projects can be judged in terms of the volume, ease and speed with which information should be exchanged over the Extranet.”
