Cadweb is the first Project Extranet to be certified to the new International Standard ISO/IEC 27001
April 2007

Cadweb has upgraded its security certification from the British Standard 17799, to the new Internationally recognised ISO/IEC 27001 standard for electronic information security management. Cadweb Limited, as part of its ongoing program to improve its service to both national and International clients, has just been inspected and certified as fully compliant with this new International standard. Cadweb.Net is the only Project Extranet to be certified to this standard.

What is ISO/IEC 27001?

ISO/IEC 27001:2005 (formerly BS 7799-2:2002) is an internationally recognised standard setting out the requirements for an Information Security Management System. It helps identify, manage and minimize the range of threats to which information is regularly subjected. The standard is designed to give confidence to interested parties, including our customers, that their information is stored and protected by a rigorously designed and managed system.

Why is it important to comply with this standard?

Information is the lifeblood of all organizations. Such information is constantly under threat from many sources; these can be internal, external, accidental, or malicious. With the increased use of new technology to store, transmit, and retrieve information, we have all opened ourselves up to increased numbers and types of threats.

Cadweb acts as a repository for this information and provides an audit trail of, ‘who said what, when’. With its certification to the standard, Cadweb is able to give a cast iron legal guarantee of the admissibility and evidential weight that the information and its audit trail will be given in a court of law.

What does the Standard require of Cadweb?

The BSI website states, ‘There is a need to establish a comprehensive Information Security Policy within all organizations. You need to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of both vital corporate information and customer information.

ISO vs. BS

BS 7799-2 (the predecessor to ISO/ IEC 27001:2005) has fast become established as the standard for the management of electronic information. Now the standard is internationally recognised as opposed to just being a ‘British Standard’ that was used overseas, it is set to become the global benchmark against which information security is judged.

“We are very pleased that the rigour of our systems and management have been recognised by our certification to this standard.’ Said Francis Newman CEO of Cadweb. “We feel that without the independent validation that the ISO certification gives, the value of any assurance as to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of a Project Extranet will only be known when it is too late e.g. when you are unlucky enough to have been taken to court. Our clients can take comfort that their data is safe and it will be legally useful if required. If you don’t have that you will never know the value of the service you are buying until it is too late.”
