Cadweb has added a ‘Cadweb Carbon Offset Calculator’ to the website so clients and designers can calculate the amount of Carbon that the use of Cadweb.net will offset from the total amount of Carbon produced by their project. Visit us live at www.cadweb.co.uk
How is the Carbon Offset Calculated?
For many years Cadweb has produced the live ‘Cadweb Green Report’ on its website. This calculated, amongst other statistics, the amount of Carbon that Cadweb has saved overall from its use on all projects. The calculator takes standard measurements from the Car Fuel Data Organisation, which is part of the UK government’s Department of Transport. A total tonnage of Carbon that would have been emitted, but now has not been due to Cadweb.net, is calculated and published.
Cadweb has now taken this one stage further by making use of the UK Government department DEFRA’s Carbon offsetting methodology to calculate a specific figure for any given project.
This figure is the absolute minimum that Cadweb.net will save as it takes no account of the biggest benefit that Cadweb.net brings, namely the increase in the efficiency of the entire planning, design and construction process. The methodology only takes into account the actual quantifiable Carbon offset generated: The actual figure is likely to be three or four times greater!
How can the calculator be used?
Increasingly design teams will have to account for and find ways to offset the carbon footprint of any given project. By deciding to use Cadweb.net for the document management and control that footprint can be reduced by a known amount at the outset, adding to the efficiency and sustainability of the scheme.
As the environmental impact of every project becomes more and more of an issue, quantifying and minimizing it will be an even greater part of any scheme. In time the environmental audit will be as familiar and important a metric for measuring a project’s success as the financial audit is today.
How can the calculator be used?
