As the number of files stored on Cadweb crosses the 6,000,000 mark and the volume stored exceeds 3 Terabytes Cadweb launches new ‘Enterprise Modules’ to broaden and deepen the usefulness of the system
|
May 2008
Use of the Cadweb system has rocketed in 2008 with nearly 100,000 files exchanged on the system every month. This has increased the total volume of data stored to a staggering 3 Terabytes. Meanwhile, Cadweb is adding enterprise modules to this core functionality that will enhance the utility of the service to clients and users.
Just how much is that?
It sounds impressive, but exactly what is a Terabyte of Data? Well, to use comparisons that are meaningful, a one Terabyte DVD (if such a thing existed) would last 16 days (and nights if you stayed around to check)! A one Terabyte disk on an I-Pod or equivalent MP3 player could store almost two years worth of continuous music.
At present the usage of Cadweb is accelerating fast and we predict the number of files stored will reach 7 million by the end of the year.
New Enterprise Modules
The product development ‘road map’ for Cadweb.net is to add key functional modules that enhance and compliment the core functionality of the system. Driven by client demand, these modules will serve specific requirements such as Tendering and CDM Compliance which are the first two to be launched.
Tendering
All projects have a requirement to Tender. Cadweb now provides a module that enhances all facets of this requirement, but facilitating the smooth exchange and management of the information generated before during and after a tender. Security of information is paramount for such a sensitive activity and Cadweb certification to ISO 27001 “Information Security management” ensures the online process is as secure as it can be.
CDM
With the increasing regulatory burden upon clients and designers and the penalties for non compliance growing ever more draconian the need for a properly audited and transparent system for the management of all CDM issues has become a high priority. Cadweb.net can now provide this functionality so the appropriate records and their audit trail are easily made available by inspectors upon request. Provision of good records is a large part of a healthy and robust CDM system and Cadweb.net is on hand to provide that.
Future Plans
Health and Safety; NEC contractual documentation compliance and a financial module are all planned to be added in the near future. These additions to the system will build on the already impressive track record that Cadweb.net has and will enhance its usefulness to many new areas of the enterprise and the projects at the same time.
